Homework Policy

Homework is assigned four days a week with Wednesday being a No Homework Day. Students revise and reinforce the day’s lesson by doing homework on a daily basis. Parents are asked to get their children to do homework as soon as possible after lunch, as learning is still fresh in their minds, compared to work completed late at night, which inevitably is hurried and inaccurate.

Highlights

  • English, Urdu, and Maths – 2 to 3 times a week
  • Science, Social Studies, Islamiyat, ICT, and Global Perspectives – 1 to 2 times a week
  • Homework is individualized to age & grade level
  • Students complete their homework independently, any work that they were unable to complete is discussed the following day with teacher
  • Parents provide a quite, supportive environment – without dictating answers or completing work for their child

Homework is recorded in the Homework Diary and this is the main means of communication between parents and teachers. Parents are expected to check and sign the dairy daily.

Dress Code

At LSL, children from Preschool to Grade 5 do not wear uniforms because we want them to practice making choices and learn from safe mistakes. Choosing their own clothes helps them build independence and prepares them for bigger decisions later in life. We believe discipline comes from understanding and fairness, while individuality helps each child feel valued and unique.

Students are encouraged to follow the dress code recommended by LSL for girls and boys.

(From Grade 5 onwards, a scarf or stole is included in the girls’ dress code guidelines.)

Health, Snacks & Wellbeing

  • Students are expected to have a nourishing breakfast at home before coming to school
  • Lunch boxes should include fresh fruit and vegetables, sandwiches, rolls, or other homemade options with plain water.
  • Junk food, packaged snacks, cola drinks, processed meat, and oily or messy food are strictly not allowed
  • Snack break is 30 minutes (10–15 minutes for eating, remainder for outdoor play), supervised by teachers, with an emphasis on table manners
  • Students in Grades 1–5 are not permitted to bring money to school

Internet Research

When internet-based assignments are given, LSL sends parents a message specifying the subject, topic, teacher’s name, and date. Children are not permitted to go online for research without a parent present.

Parent Partnership

Parents play an active role in a Junior School student’s success:

  • Daily supervision and signing of the Homework Diary
  • Two formal Parent–Teacher Meetings each year, with additional meetings available by appointment
  • Written leave applications for any absence, submitted on the day of absence or on the student’s first day back
  • Prompt payment of school dues to ensure uninterrupted participation in assessments and exams
